Tackle Unhealthy Big Game Snacks This Weekend

Junk Food

Are you trying to achieve better dental health? If so, this weekend may present a challenge. This Sunday, most Americans will make their way to social gatherings to watch the last game of the football season. Smile Workshop understands this weekend will likely not positively contribute our patient’s teeth. Your family dentistry still wants to help our patients keep their mouths healthy.

Here’s a list of food you should avoid this weekend:

Soft Drinks

Whether you call it “pop”, “Coke,” or “soda” they are all bad for your teeth. Soft drinks are guaranteed to be a popular item this Sunday, but we suggest you avoid them. Soft drinks are known to be one of the biggest causes of cavities. The sugar, syrup, and other ingredients found in soft drinks soften tooth enamel and make your teeth more susceptible to cavities.

If you just have to drink a soda during the game, choose a sugar-free option. It still won’t be “good” for your teeth, but it’s not as “bad” as other options.

Potato Chips

Potato chips and dips will most likely be everywhere in sight this weekend. Most people know that chips aren’t the best type of food to eat when you’re trying to slim down, but did you know that potato chips also cause dental problems?

Chips are a huge source of carbohydrates. Carbohydrates leave plaque on your teeth. When the bacteria in your mouth get to the plaque on your teeth, you have a potential dental problem.  Make sure to drink plenty of water ,and, if possible, brush your teeth afterward.

Sugary Desserts

Brownies and other sugary desserts help put a smile on your face, but everyone knows they aren’t good for your teeth. A good alternative for  desserts like these are  chocolate covered peanuts. Most people don’t know that peanuts and chocolate contain oils in them that help eliminate acidic material stuck on your teeth.

Smile Workshop hopes everyone has a fun and safe football weekend!
