Your Eating Habits Affect Your Dental Health

Smile Workshop is a family dental office that strives to teach patients about the oral benefits associated with having a healthy diet. Your eating habits dictate whether or not you have good dental health.

Do you have a healthy diet? Some foods that are good for your teeth include cheese, onions and peanuts.  However, eating too many sugary foods and drinks can ruin your teeth. Beverages like soda and sports drinks are sticky and full of sugar. When you drink them some of the liquid (that passes over your teeth as you take a sip) gets stuck on your teeth and gums.

Sugary and acidic drinks cause plaque to build up on your teeth. Plaque eats away at your teeth’s enamel. The longer plaque stays on your teeth and gums, the greater the risk of developing dental problems.

Poor eating habits will eventually lead to cavities, tooth decay, gum disease and other dental problems. Brushing your teeth after eating food or drinking beverages that are high in sugar and acidity will do wonders for your teeth and gums. If you are going to have a sugary drink, make sure to use a straw.

Are your eating habits helping your oral health? Smile Workshop can help you or your child with any dental problem. It’s our goal to keep our patients’ mouths healthy. Regular cleanings and exams will significantly reduce your family’s risk of future dental problems.
