Does your back to school preparation include oral care? Here are a few dental tips for your kiddos to include in their back to school checklist!
Sugary foods and drinks can cause tooth decay. Dark sodas especially can wear down enamel and stain teeth. Make sure your kids are packing healthy lunches to school. Healthy eating will keep both their teeth and their bodies healthy and full of energy. Yogurt, oats, vegetables, fruit and cheese are a few healthy ideas that won’t harm your child’s teeth. Also, make sure your child knows about the healthy options their lunch line offers if they will be purchasing their lunch.
If your child participates in sports, especially contact sports, make sure they wear a mouth guard that fits them correctly. A mouth guard will protect teeth from chips or breaks upon impact. It would even be a good idea to wear a mouthguard on the playground or during P.E. class.
Good Daily Habits
Helping your child establish good brushing habits is beyond important for their oral health for the rest of their lives. Make sure your child brushes at least twice a day and doesn’t skip flossing. Use fluoride toothpaste and a soft bristled brush. Replace your toothbrush every 3 months, or after an illness. A great way to keep track is to change toothbrushes each time a report card comes out.
Visit Your Local Dentist
No matter how closely you follow the above dental tips, it is still important to visit your local dentist regularly. Dentists can point out impurities in your teeth you may not be able to see and can provide much more in-depth cleanings than you can at home.
Keeping up with these dental tips will keep your child in school, and keep their smiles bright. Schedule an appointment with Smile Workshop before summer ends!
