Knowing what to expect can calm the nerves immensely, and we have put together some essential ‘things to know’:

Types of Braces

This will most likely be discussed prior to your braces appointment with the Smile Workshop Orthodontics team. Your Smile Workshop orthodontist will choose the correct braces for you. Knowing what type of braces you or your child is due to get will ensure you know what to expect when the time comes. There are three types of braces, all of which utilize elastic bands and wires.

-Brackets that are glued to the front of the teeth (Children and teenagers are the likely clients of these braces)

-Brackets that are glued to the back of the teeth (Mostly applied to adults or those who desire braces to be somewhat subtle)

-Metal bands that wrap around teeth

What can you expect after the braces application?

After braces are applied, most patients usually feel some discomfort or tension. This is due to the tightness of the braces as well as the brackets causing some sores. Usually, this sensitivity goes away within a few days and can be taken care of pain medication. Your Smile Workshop orthodontist will also take you through how to properly care and clean your or your child’s braces.
