Smile Workshop is your San Antonio Family Dentist. Your family’s oral health is our main priority at Smile Workshop, and we will always ensure your family receives the highest quality dental assistance. Did you know that 19% of US children, aged 2-19, have untreated tooth decay and cavities? The new school year may have already started, but it’s never too late to change up your child’s lunchbox. Let’s work together to keep our kid’s teeth healthy. Here are our Tips For A Healthy Lunchbox Your Teeth Will Love, brought to you by your San Antonio Family Dentist.

Tip #1 For A Healthy Lunchbox

Avoid sugar at all costs. Sugar encourages plaque, tooth decay and can have terrible consequences for your child’s teeth (and your bank account).

Tip #2 For A Healthy Lunchbox

Try to incorporate these foods in your next lunchbox endeavor. We promise your kid’s teeth will love you for it:

  • Cheese helps to trigger saliva which in turn helps wash away unwanted
  • Hummus paired with carrots, cucumber, and pita
  • Fruit and Vegetables (Think watermelon, pears, celery; anything that has a high volume of water content)
  • Calcium (Broccoli, yogurt, and milk are all great sources of calcium)

Tip #3 For A Healthy Lunchbox

All of the below foods coat your kid’s teeth in sugar. The longer sugar bathes a tooth; the more damage will be done. Avoid these foods, especially the gooey, sticky kind:

  • Soda
  • Hard Candy (we are looking at you, jolly ranchers)
  • Caramel
  • Taffy
  • Granola Bars
  • Peanut butter cookies
