[:en]There aren’t many people in this world who look forward to going to the dentist. In fact, many people have a crippling fear of the dentist, probably due to a very bad past experience. Most of these people do anything to avoid going to the dentist! This obviously can have some disastrous effects on your oral health, but we are here to tell you there is no reason to be scared! At Smile Workshop, we provide a friendly, welcoming environment to keep your nerves at bay. Overcoming fear of the dentist is a tough one, but we have provided a few tips and tricks to get you through:
Tell your dentist about your fear
There’s nothing worse than keeping your fear to yourself when you’re at the dentist. 5-8% of Americans have developed some sort of dentist anxiety or fear, and dentists are well aware of this. The staff can assist in helping you relax if they know about it; that’s what they are trained for!
Explore your pain options
One of our biggest tips on overcoming fear of the dentist is to explore your pain options. Oral injections are obviously one of the biggest causes of patients fear, and there are many ways to avoid this. Numbing cream and other pain options are available to you; all you have to do is talk to your dentist!
Most dentists actually help you distract yourself through a friendly conversation while you are in the chair. Although this may be awkward for you and may be hard to talk, it’s one of the most helpful ways to get your mind off of the experience. Numerous dental offices have TV’s placed about the chair so you can always watch movies or TV. If not, we recommend meditating, thinking about something else, or even counting sheep!
If you have developed anxiety or fear about visiting the dentist, Smile Workshop can help you. We pride ourselves on our ability to provide a welcoming, friendly, comfortable environment for all of our patients. If you are interested in making a booking with us, please click here.
