Have you ever had a canker sore that wouldn’t go away? Canker sores are small ulcers located on the tongue or inside the mouth. They are a common dental problem and generally affect woman more than men. Canker sores are usually red, but can sometimes have a white appearance.

Not all doctors agree about what causes canker sores, but some believe stress, food allergies and nutrition can lead to cankers.

Here are some tips on how to deal with and avoid canker formation:

When applying a canker gel, make sure that the affected area is completely dry before covering. There are several different canker sore products on the market today. It’s important to remember that just because a dental gel works for one person doesn’t mean it will work for another. You may have to try multiple gels to find the right one.

Rinse With Salt Water

Salt water naturally helps heal cuts and sores. If you have a canker sore, rinse your mouth out with warm salt water a few times a day.

Stop Smoking

Smoking isn’t good for any part of your body. The chemicals in cigarettes can cause and irritate dental sores.

Eat Less Acidic and Spicy Food

You don’t have to take spicy and acidic food completely out of your diet, but if you want   to get rid of a canker sore, try to eat less of them.

Brush Slower

Brushing your teeth too fast can cause multiple dental problems. When you brush your teeth slower, you tend to clean your teeth and gums more thoroughly. If you feel like a canker sore may be developing, brush your teeth multiple times a day to keep your tongue and mouth clean.

If you think there’s nothing you can do about your canker sore problem, give Smile Workshop a call. We have experience helping patients with canker sores and can deal with your dental problem.
